Our misson is to foster a culture of inclusivity and equity in Akron by promoting understanding, respect, and appreciation for the diversity of our community. We work to eliminate discrimination, bias, and prejudice, and to ensure that all individuals have equal access to the opportunities and resources they need to thrive.

The DEI office and its initiatives are led by Esther Thomas, who was appointed to the role in 2024. The City of Akron is fully committed to creating equity throughout our internal processes and initiatives, as well as working with community partners to ensure equity is present across institutions throughout Akron.”
